TREASURER’S REPORT GIVEN

CORPUS CHRISTI: PACKAGED LIQUOR LICENCE – Patrick Gallagher

• Patrick referred us to the “Alcohol related Policies” drawn up by Corpus Christi and explained them in more depth. (See attachment).
•Corpus Christi have a 3 strike policy; if their men break any of the rules three times or more, they are sent out to other centres which may be more isolated than where they presently are.
•It is a constant challenge to get the men to understand that they are part of the Greenvale community and need to behave in an appropriate manner.
•Corpus Christi do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour by its men and ask that Greenvale residents call Corpus Christi if men are behaving badly.
•The phone number to contact Corpus Christi is: 9333 1444
•There are only a handful of men that misbehave and it’s difficult for some of them to understand what they are doing because they have brain damage caused by drinking excessively.
•CC will try to come and pick men up from shopping centre / streets if there is a problem but this is more difficult on the weekend when there are fewer staff members working.
•Patrick explained that the men have their rights and can’t be banned from visiting a bottle shop. One self confessed alcoholic has said that he can control his urge to drink because there is no close liquor store and would want to self exclude himself from the liquor store if it went ahead.
•Patrick was asked if CC could move out to a more remote area and he answered that it would make it difficult for men to access hospitals, doctors etc. Having a shopping centre so close is a good diversion for the men as they can visit, buy coffee etc.
•Charlie mentioned that we respect CC and the good work they are doing but Greenvale is growing and people expect a liquor store to be here. Alternatives might have to be looked at.
•Craig Pickard said that he believes CC and shopping centre need to sit down and work things out because he believes that sooner or later, there will be a liquor store in Greenvale.
•Joe asked what the procedure was if we come across CC men intoxicated. Patrick asked that we call the Police.
•Patrick explained that although CC provides care for the men, they can’t police them. CC relies on the community to let them know what the men are doing. The men are free to wander at will but cannot consume alcohol on the premises of CC.
•Some men have been at Corpus Christi for 20 -25 years but the average is 6 – 8 years.

SIGN TO ADVERTISE GRA & NHW
THE SIGN HAS FINALLY BEEN INSTALLED IN FRONT OF RECREATION CENTRE AFTER MANY YEARS OF LOBBYING!!!!!

GENERAL BUSINESS
•GRA continues to be disappointed that our Councillors do not attend our monthly meetings.
•We have decided to contact the Leader newspaper to have an article written about Councillors lack of interest. We compared current Councillors to Moya White who used to attend most of our meetings and provide information and feedback.
•Resident complained about over grown trees and bushes around streets which makes it difficult and dangerous to walk past, as well as big trucks parked in the streets, posing dangers for residents
**Letter will be written to Council **
