*Liz Beattie replied that she will try to come later in the year*

LETTER RECEIVED FROM HUME CITY COUNCIL ( Travis Heeney- Manager, Aged Services and Public Health) -RE: AGED AND DISABILITY SERVICES
Letter received was in regards to letter we wrote back in March where we expressed concern that Council were planning cut backs in its services for the aged and infirm. Letter explains that Hume City Council has made some changes to some clients’ service provisions to ensure an equitable allocation of services and to prevent a waiting list. All clients have been considered when changes have been made and Council is committed to ensuring that it provides services to new clients that are not currently receiving any assistance at all. Council also continues to advocate for additional funding to ensure it can provide as much service as possible to these people in need.

LETTER RECEIVED FROM HUME CITY COUNCIL -RE: MEET YOUR WARD COUNCILLORS

EMAIL RECEIVED FROM JAMIE GRAY (Owner of Greenvale Shopping Centre)) -RE: AMENDMENT TO MINUTES FROM APRIL 29, 2010
Jamie asked that we amend the minutes from April 29, 2010 as they didn’t accurately explain some points that he made when addressing our meeting.
**It has been noted that there are additional comments and the following is an addendum to the original minutes.
Jamie outlined his plans for a Liquor store in Greenvale and expressed his disappointment that the Greenvale Residents’ Association did not support him on this issue. Jamie said that following the recent hearing, that it was up to the Director of liquor Licensing to determine if a licence should be granted. Once a decision is made, either party may appeal to VCAT.

Jamie also said that at the recent liquor hearing, Corpus Christi stated that they do not seek to rehabilitate their residents, who are free to come and go and are often found intoxicated around the streets of Greenvale and at the Shopping Centre. If one of the men is found intoxicated at the shopping centre or is causing trouble, Jamie’s onsite security are instructed to advise Corpus Christi, whose recent response has been to tell the shopping centre to call the police, which Jamie finds disappointing as it can take up to 30 minutes for them to arrive.

Jamie stated that if granted a liquor licence, he would be happy to work closely with Corpus Christi. Prior to lodging his application, he met with representatives of Corpus Christi and suggested a self-excusion program for their residents which at the time they were unwilling to consider.
In response to concerns (expressed by attendees at the meeting), Jamie suggested that GRA should ask Corpus Christi what their procedure was for dealing with such situations.
That this forms an Addendum to the May Minutes

BUDGET WISH LIST FOR GREENVALE
The following is a copy of the letter received by Council regarding the short and long term goals for the Capital Works Program for Greenvale:

RESPONSE TO EACH OF THE ABOVE ITEM

REWORKING OF SECTION RD / SOMERTON RD INTERSECTION
Charlie stressed once again that this intersection is extremely dangerous.
Cr. Ros Spence reminded us that this is a Vic Rds issue but asked if we’d like her to request a traffic investigation at this intersection. Ros will also raise the issue of roads in Greenvale at the Council meeting in approx 3 weeks time and bring it into the public domain.

GYM
Ros has asked in her Council Wish List that the Greenvale Recreation Centre be re-developed and extended. She believes that the facility is in a great location and should be the centre of community pride.
Maria Rickey suggested that a fence be erected around the perimeter of Recreation Centre to prevent graffiti and damage to building. We granted Ros Spence permission to approach Council to erect a polycarbonate fence around this area.

STREET LIGHTING ALONG MICKLEHAM RD
We continue to be frustrated that our call for street lighting along Mickleham Rd falls on deaf ears.
** We will write to Liz Beattie asking her to lobby for street lighting and upgrading of dangerous intersections in Greenvale.

GREENVALE COMMUNITY EVENT
Cr Ros Spence and Cr Drew Jessop advocated that the music festival this year be held in spring when the weather is warmer. At the next meeting, we will discuss ideas about how Greenvale residents can participate in the 2010 Music Festival.
** This item to be put on Agenda for July 29 meeting

REDEVELOPMENT OF RESERVES
Both our Councillors – Ros Spence and Adem Atmaca, are looking into upgrading the two major parks in Greenvale – Normanby Drive and Greenvale Drive Reserve. Upgrades are currently being costed by Council.

NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE FOR GREENVALE
** We will write to The Hume Global Learning Centre, asking how Greenvale residents can get involved in their programs and whether a youth centre could be established here in Greenvale.

GENERAL BUSINESS
Cr Ros Spence spoke about aged care in Hume and is disturbed that senior citizens have had their home help hours cut back from weekly to fortnightly visits. She will continue to advocate for improved services for aged care and has asked that residents call her if they are affected by cut backs.

Ros encourages residents to attend the “MEET YOUR WARD COUNCILLORS EVENING” on Wednesday, 14 July at the Roxburgh Park Recreation Centre, Lakeside Drve, Roxburgh Park – 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet your councillors and to discuss any matters of interest and give feedback on Council’s performance.
