Secondary College Sub ommittee Report. Charlie Reported on behalf of the
secondary sub ommittee .
Mark Busuttil attended
a high school planning evening on Monday 30/4/18 run by Victorian School
Building Authority. Mark did not believe the meeting listened to those who
attended.
He spoke to Ros
Spence MP regarding this matter and Ros took it up with the minister for
education Hon James Merlino. As a
consequence Ros managed to organize a private meeting for Mark with the
minister for Education James Merlino at
parliament house.
A preliminary
meeting was held at Marks house attended by Phillippa, Richard, Charlie &
Mark. to discuss the content and strategy for the meeting. Material was
supplied to Mark by Charlie from previous submissions.
It was also
decided some one should accompany Mark to the meeting, and in consultation with
Ros Spence, Phillippa was able to attend as a minute writer.
The meeting
with minister Merlino & 2 of his staff took place on 23/5/18 at Parliament
house.
The issues of
growth, student numbers and the overdue need for a secondary college in
Greenvale were outlined to the Minister, and he was also presented with a
written submission.
Mark concluded,
Overall,
we felt that our submission was well
received & I got the impression that it was a numbers and funding issue,
not location (meaning that it was a matter of when it would be built, not
if).We strongly advised the Minister that we wanted a timeline
To date, we have received an acknowledgement and thanks for our
presentation. We are still waiting for the formal response
We also started a Face book page on this particular issue to keep
track of the knowledge gained, meetings, future plans (rallies, petitions) etc.
To date we have 78 members
