President’s Report:

·         Kerry, Caroline and Stephen put in an application for the park on Normanby Drive Greenvale to be named after the late Charlie Grech in recognition for his community service.  Application has been received by Hume council.

·         The GRA has purchased a Zoom licence.  It was $230 for a year subscription.  The subscription allows for up to 100 participants.  This is our first zoom meeting. In the future we plan to run live meeting and zoom concurrently.

·         We were going to have presentation by Jamie Grey from the Greenvale Shopping Centre, but we have decided to wait until we have a face-to-face meeting when we are back on the 25th of Nov.

Councillor Report:

·         No councillors present

Guest Speaker ~ Mark Natoli, Principal of Greenvale Secondary College

·         Mark gave us an update on the progress of new Greenvale Secondary College.

·         An email was sent containing a copy of the slides presented at the meeting to give a snap shot of how things are progressing.

·         A Facebook page has been established to connect with people.

·         The school’s motto is Dream, Believe, Achieve.

·         The school’s Mission: We’re on a mission to provide the best education we can for our students by partnering with our community and fostering the natural care and passion our staff have, to make a difference.

·         The school’s Vision: To stay at the forefront of education to encourage the development of the whole student, providing them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed and become lifelong learners who are generous, active and informed citizens.

·         The school’s Values:
Excellence: We relentlessly pursue excellence and achieve our best
Leadership: We support and influence others to achieve more than they thought possible 
Respect: We respect others for who they are and value their opinions
Teamwork: We work together to achieve our goals through trust and mutual support.

·         Approx. 700 people responded to a survey for feedback that the school created. 

·         There has been a lot of interest in the new school.

·         Leadership team

o   Melinda Gall - Assistant Principal

o   Julian Vescio – Business Manager

o   Lucy Gibbs - Head of Curriculum

o   Janeded River - Head of School (7-8)

o   TBC  - Student Service Manager

·         100 student per year level was expected.  There have been 180 expressions of interest;

·          stage 2 buildings are going to need to be required sooner.

·         The school is wanting to develop partnership with local community groups.

·         Mark has a diverse background and was initially a builder before his career in Education.  He is an experienced principal.

·         Uniform gets released next week, Mark to sign of samples tomorrow.

·         Information session in 2 weeks’ time.

·         Hand over date is the 30th November, but this is up in the air at the moment with construction site closed for two weeks as it was a tier 1 COVID site. 

·         Zoning – Officially the school has to take enrolment in the zone, if the school has capacity, it can take enrolments from outside the zone.

Roads Sub Committee Report ~ Tamara Nolan

·         Not a great deal has happened since last the last meeting - Covid has had an impact.

·         A number of reports have come out in response to the Craigieburn West Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) by the Department of Transport.

·         Duplication of Mickleham Road has been given to the Major Roads Project, however their website does not give any time lines.  By mid-year 2022 most things should be finalised and business case provided.

·         Craig Ondarchie State MP and Joseph Haweil from council have been vocal in advocating for the duplication of Mickleham Rd.

 

General Business

·         Jamie Grey from the Greenvale Shopping Centre attended the meeting.  He informed us that it was not a great time for tenants in the shopping centre at the moment and they are helping to support them (5 Nov open)

·         Coles are going to refurbish the store; this is anticipated to begin on the 7th Nov.  They will continue trading as usual.  They plan to refurbish half the store before Christmas and the other half after Christmas.  Work will be carried on outside of hours.
