President’s Report:

·         Major Roads Projects Victoria (MRPV) have informed us they will be doing some investigation work around the Somerton Road roundabout, and to expect delays.  There will be traffic management in place.

·         MRPV have also sent out a survey to residents along Somerton Road, regarding its duplication.  They have also advertised this on social media.

·         We are thinking of discontinuing our PO Box, we don’t receive any correspondence via Australia Post, most is done via email.

·         Vanessa Brown from the Greenvale Shopping Centre has been in contact, to discuss Jolly Miller becoming a licenced venue, as they hope to offer a dinner service in the future.  They are also looking to allow the sale of package liquor within the centre.  They are keen to get some new tenants.

·         In the past the GRA has opposed the sale of alcohol as the Corpus Christi Centre has traditionally been home to alcoholic men.  It is believed the centre now also caters for aged care men, and others with mental health issues.

·         Due to change in demographics and the increase in Greenvale’s population, it is unlikely the GRA will oppose the liquor licence.

·         Shaquille O'Neal was at the Greenvale Shopping Centre on the 23rd of August.

Councillor Report:

Cr Naim Kurt:

·         Council has undergone a restructure.  There is a new CEO, who has made a number of changes in the last 3 months.

·         They have written to the Transport Minister in regard to bus access to Airport West Shopping Centre from Greenvale.

·         With the state election approaching, council are advocating that Mickleham Road is added to the priority list.

·         Plans for density zoning – There is a new planning director at the Hume City Council.  She is keen to look at some of the issues in the area.

~     It was suggested that the GRA could set up a meeting with her to discuss planning issues in our area.

·         The Northern Link Strategy for bike paths for councils in the north goes live on Monday.  You can have your say via the link below:
https://participate.hume.vic.gov.au/northern-trails-strategy-update-draft?mc_cid=ab71ba49b5&mc_eid=e1be6d41e1

General Business

·         The GRA had put in a submission with the Hume City Council to have the Normanby Road Reserve named after Charlie Grech, who passed away in February 2021.  Charlie had been heavily involved in the GRA and the Greenvale community for many years.

We were informed this week that the that the Charlie Grech Reserve has now been formally gazetted and endorsed by the Office of Geographic Names.  Officers will commence preparation of the signage to be erected at the reserve.

·         Land that was previously discussed as being used to build an old people’s home near Corpus Christi is now up for sale. It will accommodate 150 new homes.

·         Red light camera on Greenvale Drive was discussed, to catch those who are running the red light at the intersection of Greenvale Drive and Mickleham Road,

It was suggested that you are able to suggest a speed camera location if you visit the following site:
https://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov.au/

·         Well done to the council on the speed in which rubbish that has been illegally dumped along Somerton Road has been cleaned up.

·         Amanda-Jane Noonan from the Greenvale West Community Centre gave us an update on what is happening at the centre:

~     2nd Sept, Father’s Day breakfast, 8-9 am

~     1st Birthday celebration was a great success with about 700 people attending throughout the day

~     Uptake on all classes across the board has been disappointing, even those that are free.

Meeting Closed at 8:00 pm
