Mickleham Road Upgrade Update
A presentation was made
·
MRPV (Major
Roads Projects Victoria)
·
Christine Lo
iudice – Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Manager
·
Anton Newton
– Project Manager
·
BMD (Contractors responsible for completion of project)
·
Carmel
Famularo – Senior Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Adviser;
·
Todd Stemmer
– Construction Manager
·
Service
Stream (Services and Utilities movement)
·
Eleanor
Smith-Waters – Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager;
·
Adam Maher –
Project Manager
Major discussion points focused on Stage 1 Mickleham Road project
upgrades from Somerton Road to Dellamore Boulevard.
·
The
Mickleham Road duplication funding has been approved
·
Cultural
Heritage works were holding up the commencement of the project, however, that
has now been approved.
·
More
surveys will be conducted in the future
·
End
of 2024 there will be a ‘concentrated construction campaign’ or road works
blitz to remove the roundabout. It is likely that Somerton Road will be closed
for the 6 – 8 weeks over 2024 Christmas break. Nightworks will likely occur
during the blitz as well. Detours will be necessary.
·
They
will try to maintain Mickleham Road as 2 lanes each way, but on occasions may
be one lane.
·
Detour
routes are being evaluated at the moment.
·
Temporary
traffic lights will be installed at Aitken College. They will be commissioned
for the start of the school year 2023.
·
The
speed limit on the road duplication area will be a permanent 60 km/hr until the
project is finished in mid-2025.
·
The
site compound will be off Garibaldi Road and temporary solar lighting will be
installed. It is uncertain whether Garbaldi Road will ever be available for
public access and only a service road for Melbourne Water. GRA expressed strong
interest in connecting Providence and Aspect estates upon final construction,
however, council would need to undertake traffic/speed modelling to ensure
resident’s safety.
·
Service
Stream will start next week moving the services such as the power, gas, water,
as well as additional measures to protect the gas/oil line to Melbourne Airport.
·
Middle
of 2023, there may be some power cuts to our local area while services are
being moved.
·
Existing
light poles will be removed and replaced with new ones and plenty of road
lighting will be installed for greater visibility.
·
There
will be connecting pathways with safety barriers on both sides of Mickleham
Road in the project area, plus a crossing path/bridge constructed near the retarding
basin area on the Greenvale Gardens side of the road so residents/school
children can cross safely to the lights at Aitken College.
·
The
business case funding has been approved for Stage 2 the extension of Mickleham
Road beyond Dellamore Boulevard to Craigieburn Road.
·
Construction
will occur between 7am-5pm Monday – Saturday and some night work in December,
commencing from December 2022.
President’s Report:
Property Republic workshop
·
Judi Carr, Director of Property Republic has reached out to the
GRA to request if residents would be interested in completing a survey and
attending a workshop on Monday 5 December at 6.30-8.30pm @ Greenvale West
Community Centre, 7 Ventura Way, Greenvale, Vic 3059. This is the link to the
survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GreenvaleCommunitySurvey
·
A new residential
community will be located on Mickleham Road Greenvale and will eventually be
home to over 420 families. This community will be developed by Jinding. Jinding
has engaged experienced property marketing consultants Property Republic, to
gain valuable insights from the local community that will influence the
project’s urban design, marketing and community development activities.
·
Each
participant will be paid $150. VISA Prepaid Gift Cards will be distributed
at the conclusion of the workshop. The workshop is not suitable for
parents who need to supervise children as you will be required to participate
at all times. In addition, we have an online survey that residents can
complete, with a $500 gift card as the overall prize.
Hume
Residents Alliance
·
The Greenvale
Residents Committee have been meeting with the Broadmeadows Residents Committee
to form a consolidated approach to the issues in Hume. Craigieburn Residents
Association have also been invited. It is proposed that the combined committees
will be called the ‘Hume Residents Alliance.’
·
Some of the issues
discussed has been the town planning in relation to:
o
Number of townhouses
allowed in a given area under the “Small lot housing development code”.
The group are waiting to be told when they can present to council to object to
the 56 townhouses proposed to be built on the PASK site.
o
The width of the roads
within the new estates
o
The future of the
proposed shopping area at PASK site.
·
A new lead is required
for the Townhouse Sub-committee, if interested email the GRA.
Councillor Report:
Cr Karen
Sherry:
·
Council has approved a
self-serve library at Greenvale West Community Centre
·
Council is considering
a comparison investigation between constructing a new pavilion or refurbishing
the existing one at the Greenvale Tennis Club.
·
They have completed an
open space strategy on all the facilities that Hume needs. There are 13
precincts within Hume to review.
·
Cr. Sherry was asked
whether lights at Fleetwood Drive have been approved. She will find out.
·
Residents had
submitted questions asking about the long grass at the PASK site. However, since
the meeting, PASK have informed that they will cut the grass.
·
A second question was
raised about the lack of footpaths from Kool Kids which was also mentioned to
the councillor and noted.
