CORRESPONDENCE OUT / IN
LETTER SENT TO MAYOR & COUNCILLORS – RE: RATE RISES IN HUME
Letter expressed our dismay that Hume Council has increased rates by 4% which is above the CPI. We also mentioned that in these hard economic times, Council should do the right thing and deliver a rate rise which is at CPI or below. We also wrote of our disappointment of Councillors who promised they would keep rate increases to CPI and have broken election promises.
LETTER RECEIVED FROM TULLAMARINE BUS LINES – RE: MINI-BUS FOR NIGHT USE
Chris from Tullamarine Bus Lines informed us that smaller buses are used in Gowanbrae due to the narrow streets. He informed us that a mini bus we requested for night use does not use much less fuel than a large bus. Mini buses which are wheel chair accessible are no longer available in Australia but can be purchased second hand. Chris points out that the Government would not agree to a smaller bus being used as it creates another fleet of smaller vehicles which have to be bought, serviced and garaged, leading to higher costs, more land required to park them on and so forth.
EMAIL RECEIVED FROM JOHN GRAY (GREENVALE SHOPPING CENTRE)– RE: CABINET TO ADVERTISE GRA & NHW
John advised me that display cabinet is installed and ready for use. Cabinet can be found opposite Coles entrance near the corridor to the toilets. He also sent a letter with a key and wished our Association many years of good use of this new community board. I have sent John an email thanking both him and his brother for their assistance.

CYCLISTS NOT USING BIKE PATH ON MICKLEHAM RD
It has been noted that some cyclists are choosing to ride on Mickleham Rd and not on the bicycle path along Mickleham Rd from Barrymore Rd to Attwood.
We discussed that this was a dangerous practice but as the path is already well signposted, we decided not to take any further action.
POLICY REGARDING MATERIALS / ADVERTISEMENTS IN CABINET IN SHOPPING CENTRE
Some residents felt that the new Community noticeboard was not in a very prominent place. It is located on the wall opposite Coles entrance, close to toilets.
It was decided that we would use the board to advertise GRA and NHW meetings as well as sell advertising space. No fixed fee would be shown on flyer but price discussed upon consultation, depending on size of item to be advertised. We explored the possibility of hanging some A4 flyers around centre (once permission is granted) advising residents of the location of this Community Noticeboard.
We will also investigate costs of erecting a proper sign above the cabinet advertising GRA and NHW.
GENERAL BUSINESS
· Mobile Library van has been very busy since moving back to Greenvale Shopping Centre. School chn alighting from school buses have been using Library more frequently.
· Coolaroo Train Station has increased the carparks from 200 to 400.
· Many unauthorised advertising signs have been removed by Council or residents.
· We noted that a new Pedestrian Crossing is being constructed on Barrymore Rd, opposite the Recreation Centre.
· Walking path along Mickleham Rd from Greenvale Drve to Elphinstone Blvd needs more cleaning up and extra trees planted to fill in gaps where trees have died.
**Letter will be written to Council**
· Entry to Broadmeadows Shopping Centre, from Coleraine St becomes a bottle neck with cars. Suggestion would be to redesign another entrance to alleviate congestion with cars entering and leaving shopping centre.
**Letter will be written to Council**
· Resident asked about campaigning for speed humps on Normanby Drve to slow down speeding drivers. He was advised by other members at meeting that speed humps will not be put where buses go.
