LETTER SENT TO HUME COUNCIL (CEO- Domenic Isola), (Mayor- Geoff Porter), Cr. Adem Atmaca, Cr. Ros Spence & Cr. Drew Jessop -RE: COUNCIL BUDGET WISH LIST FOR GREENVALE
The letter spelt out our list of priorities which we would like to see Council consider in their forthcoming budget. We divided our requests into two groups: Short Term Goals which we consider to be very important and would like Council to act on these in the short term. These included:
• RE-WORKING OF SECTION RD / SOMERTON RD INTERSECTION AND FLEETWOOD DRVE/ KIRKHAM DRVE INTERSECTION to make it safer for motorists.
• DUPLICATION OF SOMERTON RD and safety improvements.
• A GYM for the Recreation Centre in Barrymore Road, Greenvale.
• SOCCER FIELD to be built outside the Greenvale Recreation Centre.
• STREET LIGHTING along Mickleham from Alanbrae Tce to Somerton Rd.
• A COMMUNITY EVENT FOR GREENVALE – (being part of Hume Winter Festival; eg: Car Boot Sale, Community Market, Wine/Cheese Fair (utilizing local producers).
Long Term Goals – what we consider to be important but realize that they may require a longer time frame in planning, feasibility studies etc.
These are:
• LARGE SCALE SUPER CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND FOR GREENVALE (Re-develop Greenvale Drive or Normanby Drive Reserves. Include Car Park, BBQ / Picnic facilities, Toilets, Feature Landscaping.
• NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE FOR GREENVALE (We would like to see a feasibility study conducted to determine when a Neighbourhood House would be a viable proposition for Greenvale).
**The letter sent to Mayor, Geoff Porter, congratulated him on his recent election as Mayor and we introduced him to our Association and invited him to our meetings.
*Received email from Adem who said he sent an email to the officers and chatted with CEO about our requests. He indicated that some issues appertain to state Government but council’s responsibilities will be looked at.
EMAILS SENT TO COUNCIL BY CHARLIE GRECH -RE: PROPOSED SIGNAGE AT GREENVALE RECREATION CENTRE
Charlie has been in contact with Council regarding proposed signs to advertise our Association. It appears that due to Charlie’s efforts, the signs hopefully will be installed shortly.
LEADER NEWSPAPER INTERVIEWS JOE CALABRETTA -RE: GREENVALE LEFT OFF THE CITY’S MAP (Article appeared in Leader Newspaper on Feb 2, 2010)
Joe was interviewed by the Leader Newspaper and he expressed his dismay that Greenvale was left off Councils’ waste and recycling services calendar and that this was another indication that Greenvale was not on the council’s radar. Cr. Adem Atmaca indicated that the error was more likely a printing error rather deliberately done. Joe went further by saying that Greenvale lacked sufficient community facilities and felt that Council focused its attention and spending on other suburbs. Hume director of City Infrastructure, Steve Crawley, said Council apologised for any confusion caused by the mistake on the calendar.
LETTER RECEIVED FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE (OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF LIQUOR LICENSING -RE: APPLICATION FOR A PACKAGED LIQUOR LICENCE BY LIQUORLAND AT GREENVALE SHOPPING CENTRE
Letter was received by the Department of Justice informing us that the application is listed for hearing by the panel on Tuesday, 16 March 2010 2.00pm
Department of Justice Level 2, 121 Exhibition St Melbourne
At the hearing, objectors will have the opportunity to discuss the objection with the panel member.
**EMAIL RECEIVED FROM DEBRA EVANS – (Administration Officer) at Corpus Christi who informed us that over 700 objections were received by the Department of Justice and the solicitors representing Corpus Christi have advised that the more people who turn up to the hearing the better.
*Please consider attending if you are able.*
**EMAIL RECEIVED FROM CRAIG LAWLOR – FROM GREENVALE NEWSAGENCY
Craig wrote a long email about being a trader at the Greenvale Shopping Centre. He states that traders have invested much time and capital in their shops and spent anywhere from $100,000 to $400,000 in outfitting them. Many locals are employed in these stores. If customers don’t support these traders, then some will fold, resulting in less opportunity and less employment in Greenvale. This ultimately will be to the detriment of the community. So the bottom line is: “SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRADERS”

GOALS FOR 2010
Joe went through the “Council Budget Wishlist” which was sent to Council. These items will form the goals we aspire to achieve.
SIGNS TO ADVERTISE GRA & NHW
Charlie is hopeful that some progress is being made in our push for signs to promote both organisations.
GREENVALE COMMUNITY EVENT
Decision was made at meeting to make Saturday, April 17 the tentative date for our event which has been re-named: “GREENVALE RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION – HAVE YOUR SAY DAY”!
Permission needs to be sought to hold the event on this day at the Greenvale Shopping Centre from
10- 2p.m. Our objectives for the exercise are as follows;
• To promote the Greenvale Residents’ Association to the people of Greenvale.
• To promote community spirit and cohesiveness.
• To survey residents to ascertain what their wishes are for Greenvale.
Daryl Canny has kindly offered to provide a table for the event.
Greg White will contact management at shopping centre and organise public liability.
Charlie will organise a promotional banner.
Vania will organise promotional balloons for children as well as a colouring in competition with prizes.
She will also organise name badges for committee members to wear and lollies for the children.
The committee will devise a Community based survey which will be taken on the day.
A flyer with details of GRA meeting dates, web-site, contact details etc will also be distributed on the day.
GENERAL BUSINESS
• We are disappointed that none of the Councillors bother to turn up to our meetings or don’t even have the decency to send an apology if they are unable to attend.
**Daryl Canny will email councillors and GRA will also send an email expressing our concern at their lack of interest.**
•(Charlie Grech) -Smelly drains along walking track between Elphinstone Blvd and Greenvale Drive are being investigated by Council. The offending property has been identified. Investigation is continuing.
•(Greg White) – Greenvale Football club and Cricket Club are training at Section Rd.
There are two new tennis courts and the second oval is almost complete.
$160,000 worth of lighting is being installed.
Section Rd is full of pot holes and people are making illegal right hand turns into Somerton Rd.
Charlie suggested to speak to the Football club and get them to join us in petitioning Council to fix the road. **Greg will investigate**
It’s a shame that we have high quality facilities at Section Rd but low quality roads to access the grounds.
• Diane Schudmak)
Street lights not working at intersection of Barrymore Rd and Mickleham Rd.
**Diane will contact Jemena.**
Diane wants to know whether land is set aside for a Neighbourhood House for Greenvale.
**Greg will investigate.**
Diane has prepared a “GRA ISSUES TO BE RESOLVED” sheet where she will document issues, their progress and actions. It will be available for distribution to residents at our next meeting.
Diane raised the issue of council cutting back on home care for the aged and infirm people.
**We will write to Council expressing our concerns about the cut backs.**
Diane is unhappy that half of the carparking at the Broadmeadows Leasure Centre is no longer available for parking. Patrons are having to park across the road at the Shopping Centre and Centrelink.
**We will write letter to Council.**
MEETING CLOSED AT 8.20p.m. NEXT MEETING Thursday, March 25, 2010 @ 7p.m.
