GREENS PARTY MEMBER – COLLEEN HARTLAND MLC / CR ROS SPENCE
• Colleen will launch her campaign from November 10th and will send out brochures to residents. Contact her if you don’t receive a brochure in the mail:
• Phone her on 03 9689 6373 – Email on colleen.hartland@parliament.vic.gov.au
• Colleen will put the question to Parliament, asking why the Smart Bus does not cover Greenvale, as well as improvement to public transport in our area.
• Greg asked about having a train service to the Airport. Colleen agrees there should be better transportation to and from the Airport.
• Cr Ros Spence will also look into the transport issue to and from Airport., especially as there is no transport early in the morning. She is also concerned that taxi drivers are not happy about short taxi rides from Airport to Greenvale.
• Colleen has met with the Taxi Assoc and discussed the possibility that there be established, a designated taxi rank just for short fares.
• Charlie mentioned to Colleen that there is no street lighting on Mickleham Rd, only at the intersections. Colleen would like to come out here at night time with someone to see the lighting problem for herself.
• Ros Spence has advocated on behalf of Greenvale residents to have lighting installed along Mickleham Rd and appreciates Colleen advocating also.
• Greg asked Colleen to advocate for duplication of Somerton Rd. Residents have noticed that the speed limit on Somerton Rd has changed to 70km. Ros mentioned that this was a good idea for safety reasons.
• A STOP sign has been placed in intersection of Magnolia Blvd and Somerton Rd which should make it safer, but Ros will still support and push for the duplication of Somerton Rd.
• Mavis mentioned the high rates we pay in Greenvale and whether we will get a Neighbourhood House.
• Ros replied by saying that she would advocate that the Recreation Centre be extended and a Neighbourhood House be established there as she believes the location is more central and there is adequate car parking.
• Ros will find out from Council what the land in Kirkham Drive is intended to be used for.
• Ros spoke strongly about Councils’ stand on changes made by the department of Transport to the route taken by the Smart Bus and told Greenvale residents that Hume council did not support these changes.
• Ros will continue to advocate for the Smart Bus to operate in Greenvale as well as provide additional services that broaden the transport network in this area.
• Ros suggested that we write to the Dept of Transport about our concerns.
• Ros showed us the “Hume Youth Strategy 2010 - 2013” paper which demonstrates “Council’s aspiration to support young people to achieve their goals and be active, valued members of the community.”
• This paper is available for viewing on the Hume Council web-site.
