April 2011 Meeting Minutes

E-mail from Hume City Council – 7 Apr 11, Barrymore Road Recreation Reserve Development. The revised final plans for the development.

TREASURER Reported on groups finances. report accepted by members present

GENERAL BUSINESS
Liquor Licence at Greenvale Shopping Centre: Greg White explained that there has been no further action from the Department of Justice on the application at this time. He said he would give the Department a call prior to the next meeting.
Action: The Secretary to follow up prior to next meeting.

Smart Power Meters: John Haddad advised that smart power meters are being installed currently in Greenvale. He was concerned at the lack of information and cost of them and said that they should be deferred. Discussion followed with several members concerned about cost. The President advised that GRA could not be involved as it was each house holder’s responsibility to deal with their billing company about this issue.
No further action.

Vic Roads: Several attendees complained at the difficult access to the Tullamarine Freeway from Mickleham Road. Concerns over the proposed intersection of Aitkin Bvd, Kirkham Ave and Somerton Road were also raised. The Secretary advised that he had contacted Vic Roads at their Cooper Street Office. He spoke to Paula Williams, a team leader with responsibility for the Somerton Road upgrade and she advised that the Hume Council had authority over the intersection at Aitkin Bvd and Somerton Rd and it is their responsibility to join the roads. Vic Roads are being consulted on this. She also advised that planning for the Upgrade of Somerton Road was proceeding but the upgrade has not been funded at this stage. They are awaiting the State Government budget for allocation of funding. Paula also provided contact details for action on the Freeway access issue.
Action: The Secretary to follow up.

Vic Roads: The President provided emails from Vic Roads regarding a number of previous issues. There was some contradiction with what Greg White was told on his visit to Vic Roads. The Secretary to action this with those above. Action: The Secretary to follow up.

Library Bookmarks: David Burrows raised a suggestion that a way of advertising the GRA is to provide bookmarks to the Mobile Library the Association details on it. The Secretary advised that he had followed up and that the Head Librarian was on leave and had left a message for her to contact him. Greg also provided a couple of sample bookmarks for perusal. Discussion followed and Vania and David will come up with artwork for the bookmarks. Vince from Neighbourhood Watch suggested that they would like to be involved with their details on one side of the bookmark. They would pay half the cost. This was accepted and Vince is to contact Vania with their artwork.
Action: Vania, David and Vince Provide the art work to the Secretary for costing.

Johnson Street Smart Bus Stop: Mavis Jack explained that elderly people are having difficulty crossing Johnson Street from the Bus stop on the south side due to heavy traffic. The Secretary advised that there is an Island in the middle of the road with a cut out for people to take refuge if necessary. Mavis advised that there is no footpath and people with cases etc, had to drag them across a dirt and grass verge. The secretary is to find out whose responsibility that area is (Hume Council or Vic Roads). Action: The Secretary to follow up.

Jemena: Anthony Ventura asked about the inadequate lighting at the corner of Greenvale Dve and Aberdeen Ave. Discussion followed and the corner of Barrymore Rd and Normanby Rd East was also mentioned as a very dark intersection with high traffic flow. The Secretary is to contact Jemena to inform them of this issue. Action: The Secretary to follow up.

Hume City Councillors: The President asked the Secretary to Email invites to the Ward councillors. Action: The Secretary to action.

There being no further General Business the President thanked those in attendance for coming and closed the meeting at 7:45 pm.
