GENERAL BUSINESS
Re-Zoning of land Under Flight Path
The president invited our local State Parliamentary Member the Hon Liz Beattie to address the meeting on the issues of the proposed rezoning of land under the flight path at Greenvale, and on duplication of Somerton Rd.
Liz said she had received many complaints against the consideration of rezoning for the Green Wedge land, and against the shortness of time afforded to residents to object.
Liz wrote to GAA to get time extended but, GAA said their time line was short and could not do so.
There was a petition of 385 against the rezoning, and 52 residents lodged objections with GAA.
The petition was lodged with shadow planning minister, who will be presenting it to parliament next week.
Liz is organizing a public meeting against the rezoning to be held at Greenvale Recreation Centre on September 8th at 7pm. Residents as well as councillors and council officers are being mailed to by Liz asking them to attend.
Liz believes residents want the land at Greenvale under the flight path to remain a Green wedge.
Cr Atmaca mentioned that around 2003 a Hi tech development was proposed for the Green Wedge land fronting Mickleham Rd. Melbourne Airport has always been opposed to development of this land under the flight path. The recent GAA report has stated “the area is not being considered for inclusion by the GAA” for possible rezoning.
Somerton Rd
Liz has witnessed many accidents on Somerton Rd and believes the reduction in speed to 70 km is not working. She has organized an onsite meeting with opposition leader Daniel Andrews and the transport minister Terry Mulder for Monday 29/8/11 at 10am, to show them first hand the dangers of Somerton Rd. Members are asked to be present and give support.
Cr Ross Spence also spoke on dangers of Somerton Rd. Cr Spence elaborated on the new road being constructed to connect to Somerton Rd called Aitken Boulevard. Hume Council wants Aitken Boulevard T intersection signalized, and wants Kirkham Dve to be incorporated in the signalization.
Liquor Licence
The President reported that Jamie Gray owner of Greenvale Shopping centre was to attend to night’s meeting to speak on the forthcoming liquor licence application for the shopping centre. I have given him the opportunity to state his case, but he hasn’t turned up.
Vandalism:
Vandalism around Greenvale Recreation Centre was discussed. Cr Atmaca to follow up the raising of the fence at the back of the kindergarten, and also shoes strung up, indicating venue for possible drug dealing. Cr Atmaca also mentioned that with the expected growth for Greenvale, it is possible that a Police station for Greenvale could be justified. He will make approaches to get some commitment.
GRA to do follow up support.
Secondary College:
It was decided to follow this up with the State Government and the education department.
Neighbourhood House:
It was mentioned that a Neighbourhood House proposed for Kirkham Drive could be more beneficial if it were to become part of the Greenvale Recreational Centre complex in Barrymore Rd. Councillors to review this in conjunction with future funding.
President Daniel said he will be absent from the September meeting, and urged members to consider future activities for GRA, and taking up office bearer positions at October AGM.
NEXT MEETING Thursday, Sept 29, 2011
The meeting closed at 9pm.
