This Strategy identifies and accommodates population growth and demographic change, transport and infrastructure needs, employment locations, social and community needs and freight.

Somerton Rd, Kirkham Drve Intersection is a Council managed contract and is being administered in conjunction with the works at the intersection of Somerton Rd and Aitken Blvd.

Cr Adem Atmaca advises us that  traffic lights will be built and ready in a couple of months even though the road may not be open. The traffic lights are a separate project than the road.

Intersection of Mickleham Rd/Greenvale Drve and Barrymore Rd/Mickleham Rd – Road Safety Cameras Vic Rds advises that the Deptarment of Justice is the responsibile authority for the management of road safety cameras within the State of Victoria. A letter will be sent to them.

MEETING AT HUME CITY COUNCIL REGARDING NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE FOR GREENVALE

Richard, Charlie, Mavis, Maria and Vania met with Cathy Marshall – Co-ordinator Social Planning at Hume City Council in regards to developing a Neighbourhood House for Greenvale. The meeting took place on Friday, June 14th at 10.30a.m.

Those present outlined our issues:
·        There are many different age groups with different requirements who live in Greenvale and who require a place to congregate.
·        At present, residents can only meet at the shopping centre.
·        We need a central meeting place where residents can meet with other residents, join a club, learn new skills and remain engage in their community.
·        The Rec Centre isn’t open during the day and so is ineffective in providing a place for residents to meet.
·        There are no clubs, courses etc in Greenvale that people can join.
·        During the school holidays, the Rec Centre is closed.
·        There is a Probus, Rotary and other clubs who have to meet in GladstonePark because there are no facilities here in Greenvale.

Ø  Cathy Marshall mentioned that the Rec Centre could be better utilised and did inform us that not all Neighbourhood House are provided by Councils.
Ø  Funding could be a challenge – there has been no growth in funding for neighbourhood Houses – the Government is pouring resources into developing Men’s Sheds.
Ø  1987 was the first time Council built a Neighbourhood House.
Ø  Community Hubs offer community facilities and for example may house office space / kitchens / space to run Play Groups etc.
Ø  A future Community Hub is earmarked for Greenvale West.
Ø  It appears at this stage that the best idea would be to sell the land in Kirkham Drve that was originally set aside for a NH and use these funds to extend the Rec Centre and provide services to the Greenvale community.
Ø  Cathy needs to collate all the data and check community needs. Research has to be done on the topic.
Ø  She will communicate our needs to Leisure Services (Bruce Fordham) and we will receive feedback within a month.
Ø  An action plan needs to be developed.

Vania, Maria, Diane, Charlie and Mavis met at the Rec Centre with Gerard Feanin from Council on Monday, August 26th.
·       Basically we were told that if we want programs, classes etc to be held at Rec Centre we need to organise them ourselves, get numbers and then ask Council for assistance. For example, Maria was thinking of organising a walking group. So she would have to start it up, get some people interested and then contact Council about having a room available at Rec Centre at such and such a time so people could meet there for a coffee after their walk.
·      Our group was disappointed to hear this as we expected Council to do the hard work!
·      We believe it is Council responsibility to initialise the start up of a Neighbourhood House.
