Correspondence: Out – Letter regarding
NBN for ‘old’ Greenvale. In – Nil.Treasurer’s Report: As reported at the meeting
Councillors’ Report: Cr Adem Atmaca took note of a number of current issues with a view to reporting back his findings, namely:
- Traffic management plans regarding Umbra and Crestwood Estates;
- Land on corner of Mickleham and Somerton Roads;
- Inadequate speed limit signage throughout the suburb (where there are changes in speed);
- No standing zone on Fleetwood Drive at Somerton Road – issue of parked car;
- Heavy truck traffic noted on Somerton Road causing noise and pollution;
- Traffic light sequencing on Somerton Road between Kirkham Drive and Aitken Blvd causing major congestion issues.
He also updated the meeting on the following:
- Corpus Christi to undergo redevelopment;
- Council is supporting Aitken College’s campaign for Mickleham Road and access to and around the College to be improved;
- Cr Adem encouraged the GRA to continue to make a lot of noise about the issues affecting the suburb, and to keep pressure on the relevant bodies in order to see some progress made.
Mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou updated the meeting on the following:
- Greenvale Drive park is to be upgraded with the addition of a walking track and exercise stations;
- The skate park on Barrymore Road is to be redeveloped;
- Cricket upgrades to take place at Section Rd;
- Health Services in Broadmeadows to receive a funding boost out of recent State budget;
- Mayor Helen was recently interviewed by the Leader newspaper in relation to the traffic issues on Mickleham Road – RACV will be running their Red Spot campaign again in 2016 and residents are encouraged to use this opportunity to raise the Mickleham Road issues.
Relocation of Bus stops as part of Greenvale Shopping Centre redevelopment – Concerns have been raised to the GRA by a resident in Greenvale Drive who encounters problems with noise, rubbish and pollution from the bus stop in front of their property. Their understanding was that the bus stop was originally supposed to be located at the shopping centre where there is an off-road indent for the bus to stop. It was suggested that to move the stop, the route would have to be changed. GRA to write a letter to Council to get clarification on what process should be followed to raise this issue with the relevant authorities.
Laws on Drones in Hume Council – GRA to request a copy of Hume’s laws.
Roads to be affected with new estates south of Mickleham Rd – Umbra, Crestwood etc – Cr Adem to follow up with the relevant sections of Council regarding any changes to the traffic management in these areas.
Walking tracks from new estates again progress and volume of pedestrian traffic has increased – There is a need for a strong community-led campaign to fight for this to be addressed. Aitken College have started a Facebook/Twitter campaign. Megan volunteered to form a sub-committee with other members of the meeting and liaise with Josie. Council are also supporting the Aitken campaign. Formation of sub-committee moved Charlie, seconded Megan.
Speed signs in local streets need to
be replaced due to increased presence of speed cameras – Cr Adem has taken
note of the concerns and the locations where speed notifications are being
requested (namely off Barrymore Road where the speed limit changes from 60km/h
to 50kmh everywhere else within the suburb).
No standing sign at end of Fleetwood
leading out to Somerton Rd need to be changed due to turning lane (Left), car
is parked in turning lane not allowing flow of traffic after school time – Cr Adem requested
that this be reviewed after it was raised at the last GRA meeting but has not
yet had a response.
Letter have been sent to council re
NBN issues in the old part of Greenvale, need update on progress – ‘Old’ Greenvale is
understood not to be on any plans for the NBN rollout until the end of 2017 at
the earliest.
Land next to Caltex service station, what is proposed for that? – Nothing has been presented to Council to date by the owner proposing any sort of development at this site.
Roads Mickleham, Somerton progress on
when they will be duplicated due to increased traffic. Melanie to invite Vic
Roads to next meeting – Ongoing issue.
General BusinessTraffic Light delays at Kirkham Dr/Somerton Rd / Somerton Rd/Aitken Blvd – Lights are not sequenced which is causing heavy congestion and delays exiting Kirkham Drive to the east onto Somerton Road. Cr Adem has raised this with the relevant Council staff but has not had a response. Will take up again and report back at the next GRA meeting.
Heavy truck traffic travelling west on
Somerton Road – Residents of Somerton Road have noticed a
significant increase in the number of truck and trailers travelling west on
Somerton Road causing noise and pollution issues. Cr Adem agreed to query what this may be due
to. It was thought that possible removal
of fill from a residential development site on Aitken Blvd in Roxburgh Park.
