June 2016 meeting minutes

Minutes of last meeting:  Minutes were emailed to all members.  Moved &, seconded  That Minutes be accepted as a true record.  Carried.

Treasurer’s Report:  The treasurer reported on the groups finances
 
Melbourne Airport Presentation.
Kris from Melbourne Airport corporation informed the group via a PowerPoint presentation of Melbourne airport’s intention to build a 3rd runway facing east /west 2 Km south of existing runway, and to extend and widen the existing east/west runway. He said various stages of impact studies including ground based Noise measurements, and community consultations will be held. The new runway if approved will affect Gladstone Park & parts of Broadmeadows. The new runway will be primarily used for landings which produced less noise than take offs. He said runway 2 (Existing east/west runway) extension should not affect Greenvale but wasn’t aware of the widening of the NEF curves over Greenvale due to the runway 2 extensions. Presidents report. President reported on activities during the past 2 months, in particular the participation in the roads forum,  Mickleham Rd subcommittee, & loss of our secretary.
Meagan, Josie & Vivian have indicated they will share the secretarial duties till the AGM
The president also spoke about the tragic loss of 2 women in the car accident on Mickleham Rd.  Alanbrae terrace intersection, when a speeding motorist went through red lights at this intersection. He said we have written to the authorities in the past to install red light cameras on Mickleham Rd. And we will do so again to prevent loss of life by careless drivers.

Mickleham Rd Subcommittee Report. Meagan reported on the progress of the subcommittee.  A plan is now being formulated to make Effective presentations to the appropriate authorities. A petition and a social media campaign and a business case are also planned. Meagan urged all present to participate in RACV and other surveys, and to write to politicians & councillors about the need to upgrade Mickleham Rd. Meagan also reported on the recent Visit by the roads minister Luke Donellan, which was organized by Ros Spence MP. The minister initially met with an Aitken college committee, which had Mickleham Rd as its primary item. He then attended the roads forum in Craigieburn, at which Craigieburn Rd, Mickleham Rd.  And Somerton road were the topics of discussion. The minister listened, took notes and answered questions. He said he will be back for another forum when he has some answers.

Councillors’ Report:  No councillor present

Secondary College. The proposed secondary college site has been fenced. Enquiries with Ros Spence office inform us that this is for the purpose of keeping rubbish dumpers off the site, and that the site is not up for sale. It was resolved to write to Ros Spence MP with a view to have a meeting with education minister to have the secondary college built.

Burglaries in Greenvale.  Charlie reported burglaries in Greenvale are still happening, and that we should again write to Police, MPs and council, to have more recourses and patrols allocated to Greenvale.  All Agreed.

General business. Charlie reported GRA has received email from the Hume Residents Airport Action Group re their opposition to the proposed new runway at Melbourne Airport.
He said we should keep in touch with, and support the group.
We have also received email from Nina Barillaro, re a survey by a building company of people who have recently built a house, to find out of their experiences with builders.  Ph 0408 578 089 if interested. They will pay $110 for survey information if eligible.
