Housing developments are a big target at
the moment. Factories are also a target at night time.
People asked what the trend of burglaries
are. Are they repeat offenders? The majority are repeat offers. Police look at patterns.
Common theme. They look for cars in the driveway.
Question asked which were many. In summary I will list a couple of the
questions:
How many houses were target both with and
without alarms?
One local mentioned that offenders ring door
bells to see of anyone is home.
There are suspicious cars driving around
Greenvale both day and night. Residents
ring police and get no response. Ray
mentioned that there are a lot of police in the area that we don’t see. He couldn’t give too much details out.
Ray encouraged everyone to be on alert of strangers in
the area. Try and get as much detail as possible.Call crimestopers. Try and get as much details as possible. If it involves a vehicle try and get “Rego, Car make, type and colour”.
If
we are confronted at home what do we do?
Ray explained:· Give them an escape route to get out
· Give them what they want.
· They are manly after “jewellery, money. Anything that is quick and easy.
· You don’t want a confrontation.
· Try not to tackle them
· You don’t know if they have a weapon.
What
can residents do to deter criminals?
·
Install C.C.T.V· Deadlock on all doors
* Valuables locked away
· Get to know our neighbours.
· Hide your spare keys. Not in the usual place. Don’t hide keys near your tyres. Don’t leave your garage remote control in the car.
· Don’t leave your keys in a common place.
A lot of the burglaries are to feed ice addition which is a very big problem.
Residents asked if C.C.T.V cameras could be installed in problem streets for police surveillance as is done in Sunbury.
Ray said Protective Services working in the evenings.
Cars broken into at railway station on the rise. Police are currently looking at this.
Ray explained how 000 works: What is required by the operator.
· Operator takes call
· Ask for police
· What location
· What job
· Urgent / non urgent
· Every job is given a priority.
Residents were very vocal tonight. They wanted to know “what can they do to
increase police patrols in the area:
Suggestions:· Write to the police minister. We want action. The more people that write to the minister the better it is.
· Write to the attorney general
· Action: population growth increase in Hume. Resources are require to cover the increase in the new housing developments.
Courts are opened for everyone to listen.
What are our rights?
The law says we can protect yourselves.
