Councillors Report. None in attendance due to them all being at a Council Meeting
Roads Subcommittee report: Tamara delivered a power point presentation, by which she provided background to the work that had been delivered last year including e-petitioning to the State Legislative Council and future actions the subcommittee plans to undertake this year.
The presentation included the Hume Council’s officer’s report released 3 December 2018 regarding council’s: ‘Opportunities to contribute to the design and planning of Mickleham Road and Somerton Road duplications.’ In summary, VicRoads has already developed the functional road layout plans for Somerton Rd in 2009 and for Mickleham Rd in 2015. Public Acquisition Overlays already exist for land required by VicRoads to widen and duplicate these roads. Therefore, the corridor studies have already been completed for Somerton and Mickleham Road duplication proposals and there is no opportunity for council to contribute to the process for these proposals. Council can provide information to VicRoads to support their relative need and priority, for example, data on traffic volumes, progress reports on residential development and population increases.
Tamara said the roads committee has been invited to meet with Mayor of Hume council to discuss supporting the ‘Catch up with the Outer Suburbs’ campaign, and will also request a meeting with the State treasurer. Tamara urged everybody to keep writing to councillors, local and state MPs in support of the duplications and reiterated that not only traffic congestion is an issue but safety and connectivity infrastructure is important for the community as well.
Secondary College Sub Committee Report. Mark said the committee has been dormant
till the machinery of government starts to move in this New Year. The secondary
College is planned to be open by 2022. The next phase will be the inclusion of
funding for the college in the 2019 budget.
General Business it was mentioned that the car parking at the Greenvale shopping centre is getting very scarce and congested, and that the presence of the Mobile library taking approx 13 spaces was compounding the problem. It was decided to ask council to have the mobile library moved to the Greenvale Recreational centre site.
Moved ,& Seconded That council be asked to have the mobile library resited to the Greenvale Recreational centre site. Carried Unanimously
The matter of what our council is doing with our recycling, and what plans it has to deal with it, and the hoons driving on Barrymore Rd, and in the council car park were also raised.
The matter of
rejuvenation of our parks and provision of toilets was also raised for follow
up
GRA will write
to council on these issues also. The question of the possibility of a new shopping centre was raised, particularly on the vacant land at Providence. The developers have stated that they cannot get tenants, so they have not built the centre. Developers are renowned for promising facilities that do not eventuate.
Residents can ask questions at council meetings but need to present them before the meeting takes place.
