She reported on some comments on facebook, and reminded everyone that Greenvale Residents Association is a voluntary and open group, and those that want to see change should roll up their sleeves, come to meetings and help our group otherwise nothing will be achieved. Derogatory comments on face book regarding the good work of GRA volunteers is not acceptable.
Councillors Report.
Cr Jessop covered a lot of topics as questions were asked of him
and answers went along the following:-The state government approved subdivisions, and council had no control on the number of them.
The same with Vic Roads, council is not able to tell them or the government what to do, or when to build roads. Like residents council can only put pressure and advocate for roads to be built. Council do not have responsibility for arterial road development. VicRoads are responsible for these major roads, therefore it is not the responsibility of the rate payer to fund arterial road development.
The major shopping activity centres to be built in the future will be at Kalkallo and Merrifield. Smaller activity centres may be built as new estates take shape. Council has little say in housing density.
Hume Council has the most accurate demographic data for Hume.
Sports grounds will be scattered among developments, however, Greenvale sports recreation centre will be a major regional sports centre. Greenvale has not had the population to attract top regional facilities
Drew spoke on the comparative rates as they applied across municipalities. The matter of the leisure centre renovations builder going broke was also discussed. May end going to administrators, or to an alternative builder.
Tamara reported that the 2019 Legislative Council e-petition is now available on the GRA face book ‘Support duplication of Mickleham and Somerton Road’ page. It can also be found via this link: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/council/petitions/electronic-petitions/view-e-petitions/details/12/129. It is open for all Victorian residents (with addresses as listed on the electoral role) to sign. So far we have 138 signatures and the e-petition will be tabled in November 2019 by our sponsor Ms Fiona Patten MP. The Greenvale Roads Subcommittee has also found out from VicRoads that it is highly likely that duplication of Mickleham Road will be prioritised to occur between Somerton and Garibaldi Road (Aspect) first. Additional traffic signalled intersections are to be developed at Garibaldi Rd, Aiken College, Lemonwood Drive and the roundabout at Mickleham/Somerton road. The plans indicate for Mickleham Road to be triplicated in both directions, however, it is more likely that duplication will occur initially. It was suggested that residents continue to place pressure on government and raise the issue of Greenvale Roads through their website:
Report a Road issue - https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/traffic-and-road-use/report-a-road-issue
This information is required to be reported and briefed regularly by VicRoads through to the Victorian Roads Minister. This link will be advertised again through the GRA face book pages. Residents are encouraged to write from their perspective regarding the road issues causing delays to get to work, school and appointments, plus issues of poor infrastructure, such as adequate footpaths for school children to walk safely, poor lighting, and no safety barriers which cause ongoing issues with accidents, and community connectivity to the shopping centre, community hubs, medical facilities.
Secondary College Sub Committee Report. Mark was unavailable. However a letter
from Ros Spence addressed to Mark’s attention Regarding Questions she
raised in parliament with the Education Minister, quoted the Minister stating
that Greenvale secondary school will be built by 2022, among other schools to be built in Yuroke electorate
