Mickleham Rd Sub-committee report:
Tamara reported that she had invited local minister Ros Spence to the GRA meeting, however, she was unavailable and has requested her to attend the meeting on 30 April 2020. The subcommittee has continued to encourage residents to submit their complaints to VicRoads (Department of Transport – DoTS) via their webpage as these complaints are reported regularly to Victorian Minister for Roads, Jaala Pulford: https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/traffic-and-road-use/report-a-road-issue Many residents have lodged complaints in February, but there is still not enough to make the numbers count. Cris Calderia (Senior Engineer – VicRoads) indicated that surveillance officers have been deployed to observe activity at the Lemonwood/Hillview intersection development to ensure that the developer does not close the arterial road to a single lane during peak times (7 Feb 2020). The developer has been warned by the department. Cr Haweil has continued to advocate with his co-councilors regarding the duplication of Mickleham road. The GRA shared the video post of Cr Haweil from a general council meeting which had been viewed over 20,000 times in order to raise concerns regarding the developer’s behaviour.
The subcommittee plans to launch another e-petition through
the Legislative council again this year 2020 to advocate for duplication of
Mickleham and Somerton Roads.
Councillors’ Report
Cr Haweil informed us that his Video at council
meeting re Mickleham Rd was very successful with some 20,000 people seeing it.
Ros Spence MP also supports it as it puts pressure on government to act. He
said some of the developers works & road closures were illegal. He also
said Vic Electoral Commission are looking at ward boundaries before next
council election, and boundaries are likely to change, and GRA should put in a
submission.
Cr Drew Jessop further elaborated and said Greenvale
Roxburgh Park Attwood Westmeadows are likely to end up with split boundaries,
which is not satisfactory, and urged GRA to put in a submission and advocate
for complete wards.
He said the new local Govt act now allows for smaller single
councilor wards. This is not favored for Hume as they tend to get
parochial. May work in the smaller inner
city municipalities, but not in Hume. Submissions by 25/3/02,
Public hearings on 30/3/02. A question was asked of Drew
about duplication of Aitken Boulvard. Drew said this is currently a council
road, with indications it will be taken over by Vic Roads. It will then be up
to vic Roads to duplicate.
Guest Speaker Denees
Bolmat. Corpus Christi Centre. Denees mentioned new buildings completed and
residents moved in late October 2019. The old buildings are now being
demolished. The residential, Admin, & Laundry are now separate wings. Villa
Marie & government each put in 12.5 million towards the new buildings . The
facility is primarily for men who are homeless. All have problems, drink, drugs
smoking. None of these are permitted on site. It is a specialized care
facility. Currently has 77 residents with a total capacity for 90. Ages range
from 40 to 80. New manager not appointed yet. Hard to get managers since the Aged
care Royal Commission. Question was raised regarding Corpus Christi’s
opposition to a bottle shop at Greenvale shopping centre, and Denees said
policy is still the same.
Denees mentioned that residents are taken out to various
recreational venues as part of the accreditation.
They have 3 busses and 3 cars for transport. Volunteers are
always welcome to do various tasks. Denees thought the suggestion by one of our members of an open day at Corpus Christy worth considering
General business.
Cr Jessop Mentioned the Hume Clean Day on 7/3/02 for people
to take unwanted goods to the tip. And
